C L A I R E 'H A W K E Y E' B A R T O N
Orphaned at an early age, following years of abuse at the hands of her father, Claire Barton was sent to a children's home with her older brother Barney. When things didn't appear to be working out, they ran away to join a traveling circus, where the pair worked as roustabouts. Whilst a member of the circus, Claire was trained by the original Swordsman in knife throwing, and later archery with Trickshot. Her skill in the latter earned her the resentment of her brother, and was the last straw that broke their bond, resulting in him abandoning her there. She scuppered an attempt at swindling the circus out of money, headed by her former mentor, which left her for dead. She left the circus shortly after her recovery.
She was recruited to S.H.I.E.L.D during her early twenties, after finding herself on their radar in a bad way, for her hand in some high profile assassinations. Her unparalleled skills in marksmanship and archery made her an asset, though she'd been made aware that it could just have easily gone a different way. She joined the Avengers following the attack by Loki on New York.
